The International Association of Judges (IAJ/UIM) has been informed that the one-year prison sentence imposed on our colleague, Judge Anas Hmedi, President of the Tunisian Judges Association, was upheld by the Court of Appeal of Tunis on 1 July 2026, with immediate enforcement.
The Association reiterates its profound concern that this decision was reached in proceedings that have consistently failed to comply with the fundamental guarantees of due process and a fair trial, thereby further undermining judicial independence and the rule of law in Tunisia.
